Pen Plating's

Each hand turned pen is made from a combination of materials. The body, or cap and body, can be made from a number of materials such as wood, resins, and synthetic materials. Each pen is also made from a number of metal components available in several types of finish. A writing instrument gets significant use and abuse, which will cause all of these finishes to wear over time. While we use finishes that are durable, it is important to note that dirt, oils and other chemicals in combination with physical abrasions will eventually wear through all finishes.

Rest assured that Millers Woodturnings only use quality pen plating’s.

Gold
The Gold plating on our pens uses small amounts of cobalt or palladium added to the plating chemicals. This enhances the durability of the gold plating.

Chrome

This is an extremely durable plating. Under normal use this plating should hold up for many years.

Platinum

This is a very durable hard plating.

Black Titanium

This is titanium oxide molecularly bonded (PVD). This plating is unbelievably hard and durable.

Rhodium

This is a high-end finish that has an appearance that is very similar to chrome, but with a slightly silver tint. It handles wear well.

Stainless Steel

This is a very durable finish. The finish may dull over time, but it will not wear off. Excellent wear characteristics.

Brass

A few pens are made from brass which will maintain or develop a darker brass patina over time. Excellent wear characteristics.
